<p>The Halliwick Concept is a way of teaching anyone to swim. It was developed in the UK in 1949 specifically for teaching disabled people to swim and is now used in many countries in the world both for teaching swimming and for therapy. For more details about the Halliwick Concept see the paragraph below. The Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy (Halliwick AST) is the UK association that promotes Halliwick and <strong><a href="http://www.halliwick.org.uk/courses-training/uk-course-dates-organisers-2011/">organises courses </a></strong>both in the UK and internationally and has developed numerous <strong><a href="http://www.halliwick.org.uk/publications/">Publications and DVDs </a></strong>about Halliwick.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.halliwick.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Halliwick-Concept-for-Halliwick-AST-website.pdf" target="_blank"><span style="font-size: medium;"><strong>‘The Halliwick Concept 2010’ </strong></span></a>is a paper written by the Education and Research Committee of the International Halliwick Association (IHA). This paper has sections on the <strong>philosophy </strong><strong>of Halliwick</strong>; an explanation (with diagrams) of the <strong>Ten Point Programme</strong>, (‘the structured learning process through which a person with no experience in water can progress towards independence in the water.’); an explanation of how Halliwick can be used for <strong>Therapy</strong> (with reference to the World Health Organisation’s International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) – WHO 2001; and a link to <a href="http://www.halliwick.org.uk/publications-2/the-halliwick-story/"><strong>the History </strong><strong>of Halliwick.</strong></a><br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>The following is a synopsis of it’s contents</strong>:</p>
<p>This year’s Annual General Meeting was held on Sunday &#8211; 28<sup>th</sup> April at the Barton Leisure Centre, Waynflete Road, Headington, Oxford OX3 8GA. The AGM was followed by the first meeting of the newly elected National Executive Committee. At the AGM, it was agreed once again that the annual Insurance fee was to remain un-change for 2013-14. </p>
<p><strong>On page 2</strong> at the top <strong>are the dates</strong> for all the forcoming <strong>National Executive and Management meetings</strong> for the next year</p>
<p><strong>Also on page 2</strong> there is <strong>an update on Halliwick AST Publications. </strong>Copies of the amended <strong>Publications and Equipment Order Forms </strong>also appear<strong> on pages 5, 6 &amp; 7.</strong><br />
<strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">We will no longer be stocking ‘Poached Eggs’</span></strong> and suggest you buy them direct from <strong>SWIM SHOP</strong><br />

<p><strong>On page 3</strong> there is an article about the new <strong>Disclosure and Barring Service</strong> (DBS).</p>
<p>There <strong>will now only be 3 Newsletters in the year</strong>; <strong>1st of February, <span style="color: #ff0000;">May</span></strong>, so that<br />
a report on the April AGM and National Executive Committee meeting can be included<br />
and <strong>November</strong>., so that the results of the Annual National Swimming Championships<br />
can be included.</p>

<p><em> </em>We suggest that clubs may contact either of the following:</p>
<p>the RLSS &#8211; the Royal Life Saving Society - where to partake in their scheme  each individual club would first have to affiliate.</p>
<p>There are two levels of annual affiliation fee: either £122.25 if you do not actively offer the RLSS courses or £41.25  if you do; either way, each CRB check is <strong><em>FREE</em></strong>.</p>
