IHA Education and Research Committee Meeting
Ann Gresswell (Chair IHA Education and Research Committee)
from the IHA newsletter, June 01
*

At the IHA General Meeting held in London, UK, in October 2000 the following members of the IHA Education & Research Committee members were re-elected onto this Committee:

Bodil Fons Knudsen (Denmark)
Jean-Pierre Maes (Belgium – presently working in Britain)
Ann Gresswell (Britain)

Due to the resignation of three Committee members (due to personal commitments), three new members were elected on to this Committee. They are - Nathalie Pittl from Austria, Inger-Lise Schouw from Norway and Ruud Verspiek from the Netherlands. Thanks are due to those resigning from this Committee especially Karin Sitz, a founder member of this Committee, and Roswitha Flury who had been an excellent Secretary of this Committee for three years.

Ann Gresswell continues as Chairperson. A new Secretary has not yet been elected so Ann will deal with any correspondence and queries that arise.

The paper on ‘The Halliwick Concept 2000’ written for lecturers and assistant/trainee lecturers, was agreed at the IHA General Meeting. It has taken over 2 years of discussion so at last it is completed! The main change is regarding the Ten Point Programme and each country will be responsible for explaining these changes to those using Halliwick in their country.

The IHA Education and Research Committee also met over the same weekend as the General Meeting and held a meeting in April this year. The main items discussed have been:

  • The next International Course for Lecturers/trainee lecturers will take place over the weekend of September 29/30 2001 in Vienna, Austria. The topic will be ‘The Halliwick Concept 2000’. If you are a registered IHA lecturer or a trainee lecturer working with a registered IHA lecturer and have not received details of this course, you need to get in touch with Edith Engel, fax: 0043(0)1/7131518/1112 or email maria.krenn@szu.at You need to be a member of IHA (either through being a member of your National Halliwick Association (if there is one) or being an Individual Member of IHA.

  • The ‘Educational/Training Systems recognised by IHA’. In the paper produced about this we have stressed that there is more in common between the different training systems than there are differences and we hope to work towards one system in the not too distant future.

  • The IHA Education and Research Committee and the Executive Committee have agreed changes to the formation of the IHA Education and Research Committee. More details will be given about this when they have been finalised.

The next meeting of this Committee will be at the time of the International Course for Lecturers and Assistant Lecturers - Friday 28 September 2001 with the following meeting being in March 2002.

We would like to inform you of a web site with a good section about epilepsy and swimming. It is www.epilepsy.org.uk. Hope you find this site useful.

We hope all continues to go well for Halliwick in your country. Do contact any of the members of this Committee if you have any topic you would like us to discuss or if you need help with anything related to Halliwick educational issues.
